ROC STEADY CO.

Created in 2004 by Yuki of the Taichung based Broken Flowers, ROC Steady Co. has grown to become a large presence on the island, particularly in the central city of Taichung. The "ROC" in ROC Steady stands for R.O.C., (Republic of China) Taiwan's recognized name which contains a nifty and appreciable double entendre hinting at the progressive rock the label is promoting on Taiwan. Early on, the label released The Broken Flowers debut EP and then continued to sign local artists of a variety of sounds including the shoegazer group Subway, alternative buzz band underTree, hard rockers Mr.M., emo pop band Fakery and crazy pop punks Damn Kidz. Making connections with Japan, ROC Steady has also imported modern underground rock bands including Dazzle Vision and Out of Standard. More recently, the label has become a concert promoter organizing festivals like Rock in Taichung: Unlimited Freedom Festival and arranging tours for Japanese experimental rock bands like 2side1Brain and Uchikubi. The accomplishments of ROC Steady in the Taiwan independent music scene are reaching an apex and this company is worth keeping an eye on.
