8mm Sky
Lead singer Peter was one of the first indie kids I met while hanging out at
the Wall complex. I think I remember watching 8mm Sky's video on White Wabbit
clerk Christii's laptop. It was another video done by Da Ba, owner of the Mai 68
bookstore. The music was a mix of slow indie and post-rock, and it fit well with
the scenario written by Peter. Set in a coffee shop at closing time, a clerk wiping
down tables and mopping the floor approached a suspicious customer in a corner booth only to find him covered in blood and surprised at a knife in his hand. Well that's about as much
as I can remember anyway, but it was pretty intense and artistic.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see 8mm Sky as much as I would have
liked. When they played on the Mountain stage at the 2004 Formoz Fest, I caught a
couple songs but I had to leave early because I had to teach on the following
Saturday morning. While I ran into Peter frequently at The Wall, it wasn't until
Spring Scream 2005 that I saw 8mm Sky play again. It was there that I realized
how sensitive and thoughful their songs really are. While they are offically not
affilated with any label, they have a song on the WWR's Lobo I comp as well as a
live VCD.
